Zumba
Over the course of this class I was able to learn a lot about myself. This class made it clear what I needed to work on within myself. It gave me the opportunity to face fears, build strength and not focus on stress.
For our Zumba presentation, I initially signed up alone but noticed the girl in front of me also signed up alone. So I thought to ease the anxiety I struggle with, I would feel more comfortable with a partner.
Thankfully she said she would be willing to work with me. We began researching around and agreed on Bachata as our presentation choice shortly came to realize how slow the pace is on our style choice.
But we found a song by an artist named Romeo Santos featuring R&B artist Usher, called promise. A little more upbeat and included some English as well. Practicing for the presentation was a bit challenging. Trying to find dance moves the naturally flow into the next move was a bit tricky.
Once we found a dance flow that seemed to work, we would realize that we still didn't get to our minimum time. This was the most challenging part for me. Trying to come up with additional moves and remember them once we made them up.
After the presentation I was happy with what we decided. Towards the end, we decided to not present all the additional dance moves we made before, and keep what we knew, and were confident in. I learned that sometimes I can make things more difficult then what is really being asked, and stress only makes things more difficult.
Zumba’s energetic style forces you to come out of your shell! Bringing out moves that you normally wouldn’t do. Not because they’re bad, but because you might just not have to self confidence to do so. Or just wrapped up in life that you often don’t have the chance to let loose.
Zumba has been a great and much needed experience. I’m glad I had this chance to experience it.
